RONDO SSO 687 C — Automat-Cutomat 2000

The SSO 687 C is RONDO's longer version of the Automat-Cutomat 2000. It combines a dough sheeter and integrated cutting station in one floor-mounted machine. The major difference from the SSO 685 C is the longer working table/conveyor, giving you more production length. RONDO's current technical literature lists the SSO 687 C as part of its Mechanical Cutomat range.

These are converted from RONDO's metric specifications.

Physical size

This is where the 687 C is noticeably larger than the 685 C.

Working position

With the dough catch pans extended:

60.0 in wide × 155.51 in long

That's approximately:

5 ft × 12 ft 11.5 in

The RONDO installation documentation gives the working floor-space requirement as 1,215 × 3,950 mm for the 687 C.

Resting/folded position

With the tables hinged upward:

70.87 in long × 47.83 in wide

or approximately:

5 ft 10.9 in × 3 ft 11.8 in

The tables fold upward, dramatically reducing the floor space required when the machine isn't being used.

Roller system

The SSO 687 C has approximately:

26-inch rollers

RONDO specifies a roller length of 660 mm, which converts to 25.98 inches.

The roller gap is:

0.020–1.77 inches

RONDO's newer technical documentation gives 0.5–45 mm, equivalent to about 0.020–1.772 inches.

That's a very wide thickness range.

The big advantage of the Automat version is that roller-gap reduction is automatic. RONDO's documentation describes the 687 C as having automatic roller-gap reduction, while the comparable Manomat machines use manual adjustment.

Four automatic programs

One particularly useful feature of the Automat 2000 is the ability to use four preset roller-reduction programs, as well as manual adjustment.

So you can establish repeatable reduction sequences instead of manually setting every pass.

RONDO's technical material specifically identifies the SSO 687 C as having four programs/manual roller-gap reduction.

That's particularly useful for production where you're trying to make the same pastry repeatedly.

Conveyor

The conveyor is:

25.20 inches wide

The newer RONDO specification gives a conveyor width of 640 mm, which converts to 25.20 inches.

The outfeed speed is:

23.62 inches per second

That's:

118.1 feet per minute

RONDO specifies 60 cm/sec.

The cutting speed is variable.

Cutting station

The SSO 687 C isn't just a dough sheeter. It is a Cutomat, meaning the cutting operation is integrated into the machine.

The cutting station provides:

  • Variable cutting speed
  • Adjustable cutting pressure
  • Integrated cutting operation
  • Conveyor transport through the cutting process
  • Counter-pressure/support underneath the dough
  • Front-accessible cutting station

The result is a continuous process of:

dough → sheeting → cutting → discharge

rather than having an operator remove a sheet and transfer it to a separate cutting operation.

RONDO specifically describes the Cutomat family as machines for combining sheeting and cutting operations.

Stainless-steel construction

The SSO 687 C uses a:

Stainless-steel A-frame/substructure

RONDO specifies stainless steel for the substructure of the Automat 2000 SSO 687 C.

The tables and food-contact areas are designed for commercial bakery production.

Flour duster

An automatic flour duster is available as an option.

It is not standard equipment on the SSO 687 C.

Automatic reeler

The SSO 687 C does not have an automatic reeling device.

RONDO lists the automatic reeler as unavailable on the Automat-Cutomat 2000 685 C and 687 C.

That's different from certain other RONDO Cutomat configurations.

Controls

The 687 C is a mechanical Automat-Cutomat, not the newer touchscreen Rondostar-Cutomat 5000.

RONDO specifies:

Handwheel with expanded scale

for the Automat-Cutomat 2000.

The important point is that the machine still has automatic roller-gap reduction, even though its operator interface isn't a touchscreen.

Power

RONDO specifies:

1.5 kVA / 0.9 kW

for the SSO 687 C.

That's approximately:

1.2 horsepower

for the 0.9-kW motor rating.

Electrical supply

This is particularly important if you're buying a new machine for the United States.

RONDO's documentation lists the Automat 2000 SSO 687 C for several three-phase configurations, including:

  • 200 V, 3-phase, 50/60 Hz
  • 220 V, 3-phase, 50/60 Hz
  • 230 V, 3-phase, 50/60 Hz
  • 400 V, 3-phase, 50 Hz
  • 420 V, 3-phase, 50 Hz

The exact electrical configuration should therefore be specified when ordering.

There are also dealer specifications for a 220-V, 60-Hz, 3-phase configuration, which is especially relevant to North American installations.

Weight

RONDO's current documentation lists:

584 lb

for the SSO 687 C without the optional flour duster.

The installation manual lists approximately 584 lb without the flour duster and about 628 lb with the flour duster.

So for planning shipping/handling, I'd budget around:

600–630 lb

depending on configuration and packaging.

Dough capacity

One dealer specification for the SSO 687 C gives a recommended dough-block weight of approximately:

13–27.6 lb

That's the conversion of 6–12.5 kg

Working footprint

For a bakery layout, these are the numbers I'd use:

SSO 687 C

Working:

60.0 × 155.5 inches

5 ft × 12 ft 11.5 in

Resting/folded:

47.8 × 70.9 inches

3 ft 11.8 in × 5 ft 10.9 in

The difference is substantial, and it's one of the machine's major space-saving features.

687 C vs. 685 C

Since you've been looking at both, this is probably the most useful comparison:

Specification SSO 685 C SSO 687 C
Roller length 26.0 in 26.0 in
Table width 25.6 in 25.6 in
Conveyor width 25.2 in 25.2 in
Roller gap 0.020–1.77 in 0.020–1.77 in
Outfeed speed 118 ft/min 118 ft/min
Automatic gap reduction Yes Yes
Cutting speed Variable Variable
Working length ~143.7 in ~155.5 in
Working floor width ~47.8 in ~47.8 in
Rated power 0.9 kW 0.9 kW
Weight ~573 lb ~584 lb
Flour duster Optional Optional
Automatic reeler No No

The 687 C essentially gives you a longer production path while retaining the same basic 26-inch roller/25-inch conveyor system. RONDO's specifications show the 685 C at 3,650 mm overall working length and the 687 C at 3,950 mm.

That's about:

11.8 inches more working length

for the 687 C.
